Immune System Tonic

Nothing is worse than being sick around holidays. Finally some time off and then … grrrr. December through February is the major flu season in the US, but can hit as early as October and go as late as May. Has it gotten you yet?

Hope you were or are being spared. I wasn’t. Or should I say ALMOST wasn’t.

Try this rescue remedy:

Immune System Tonic

A wonderful tonic for the immune system.
Drink this tonic 3x/ day to help fight off the flu, the cold or generalized aches and pains.

1-inch fresh ginger, peeled and diced
juice of 1 lemon
1/8 -1/4 tsp turmeric
to taste maple syrup or honey
20 oz water

Boil water.
Simmer the peeled and diced ginger for 5 minutes or until water is reduced about 16 oz.
Pour ginger water in a cup and add other ingredients. Stir.
You can use fresh, dry or diced ginger instead.


Fresh ginger is warming, dry ginger is heating. Both are diaphoretic (=make you sweat), stoke digestive fire (=help fight pathogens), clear phlegm and aid with nausea.

Lemons are heating, sour, and increase digestive power. They relieve abdominal pain and mucousy coughs, and also boost the immune system.

How to know the flu is coming on?

If you feel signs like a runny nose, generalized aches, pains in your body, coughing, a slight fever, congestion, or headaches…..make the brew and jug it down throughout the day. It’ll prevent things from getting out of hand. Oh, and get plenty of rest. Sleep is the best medicine.
